Now, with your permission, Facebook can scan your phone’s camera roll to create AI-powered collages, summaries, and photo edits. The feature, which first began testing earlier this year, is now available across the US and Canada.
Meta Has Launched a New Feature that Scans Your Photo Archive with AI and Provides Suggestions
The purpose of the new system is to allow users to rediscover “hidden treasures” they may have photographed and forgotten over time. According to Facebook’s announcement, this AI-powered tool analyzes the photos in your gallery and provides suggestions based on specific themes. For example, you might see a collage automatically generated by AI from a vacation album or a special summary of your graduation day.
Meta emphasizes that the feature is completely optional. Users only allow their photo archives to be analyzed if they give their consent. If you choose not to use this feature, Facebook will not access your camera or photos. However, if you activate the feature and make AI-supported edits or share the results, this content may be used in the training of Meta’s AI models.
The statements also indicated that the AI suggestions will be displayed exclusively to the user in the Facebook Stories and Feed sections. Users can disable these suggestions at any time through the camera roll settings. This ensures that individuals with privacy concerns can turn off the feature whenever they wish.
